Living where we do in Atlanta has its benefits. When you reside almost smack dab in the middle of a big city, you not only have a better commute to work, you’ve got ready access to tons of exciting events — events that you may not have attended if you were living OTP (outside the perimeter.) Take these November events in and around Grant Park, so you don’t miss out.
Cabbagetown Chomp and Stomp
This annual chomp and stomp event is packed full of fun. The “chomp” refers to a delicious chili cook-off. The “stomp” refers to a 5k race through historic Cabbagetown. All registered runners and walkers for the 5k get a commemorative long sleeve tee AND free chili later in the day! But wait, there’s more… There will also be a large artists market featuring wares from over 65 local artisans as well as a bluegrass festival with toe-tapping live music all day long. Even better, all proceeds from this non-profit event benefit Cabbagetown parks, green spaces, and its community center.
When: November 4, 2017, from 11am-6pm (The 5k race starts at 7:45 am for walkers and 8 am for runners.)
Grant Park MothBall
If you didn’t get your fill of costume parties during Halloween, here’s your chance to get gussied up one more time. In keeping with the “Mardis Gras” theme for this fundraising event, there will be a New Orleans brass band, specialty foods and drinks, live VJing by DJ Fernando F, a costume contest, dance-off, and lots of prizes at Grant Park Mothball this year. Need help with creative costume ideas? We’ve got you covered. Remember — all proceeds from this event go to our beloved Grant Park Neighborhood Association, which helps to make our very own Grant Park area an even better place to live, work, and play.
When: November 11, 2017, from 8pm-1am
Where: Grant Park Rec Center located at 537 Park Ave SE, Atlanta
Ticket info: $30 in advance, $40 at the door
Atlantic Station Tree Lighting
If the Thanksgiving holiday didn’t already get you in a festive state-of-mind, this tree-lighting event certainly will. To kick off the occasion, there are several fun events scheduled, including a holiday parade and live swing music on the main stage in Central Park. Photo-ops will abound, especially since you’ll likely see a live reindeer or two (no guarantees on Rudolph making a showing.) It all culminates in the evening with the lighting of Mid-town’s greatest tree, and fireworks show afterward.
When: November 19, 2017, from 1pm-10pm
Where: Atlantic Station, 1380 Atlantic Dr, Atlanta
Ticket info: FREE
